Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level- tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil

  • open the bonnet and secure it with the strut
  • explain that before carrying out the check you would ensure the car is on level ground and that oil has had the time to settle
  • identify dipstick/ oil level indicator
  • explain that you would remove dipstick- wipe it and replace it fully
  • remove if for a 2nd time- check oil level was between maximum and minimum markings- replace dipstick securely

  • open bonnet and secure it with strut
  • identify brake fluid reservoir (usually a small plastic container attached to engine bulk head- will contain oil coloured fluid)
  • check fluid level in bottle is between high and low markings on side of translucent bottle

  • identify high/low level markings on header tank (where fitted) or radiator filler cap
    describe how you would top up to the correct level

  • identify the windscreen washer reservoir (usually has a lid marked with windscreen symbol)
  • explain how to check level by looking through the lid, or looking for level through side of container
