The second benefit of using our senses has to do with intimacy.

Strangers might ask each other for a sip of water.
preach
to deliver a sermon.
somebody preaching in the street
conduit
a pipe, tube, or the like, for conveying water or other fluid.
The dog or the baby is a social conduit to the person.
