Tectonic Theory Flashcards
What has theory helped up underhand ?
Where major landforms form.
Where natural hazards occur
Name the things which support theory ?
Plate boundaries and what happens here
Convection currents
Slap pull
Ridge push
What doesn’t support theory
Hot spots
What was 300 million years again
Super continent Pangaea
But over time have drifted Alfred Wegner said this was to do with continental drift
Evidence of Pangea
Continents showed remarkable conformity.
Jigsaw puzzle
Rare fossils four in rocks of different continents now separated
Rocks
Mountain ranges
Convection currents
Drive plate tectonic movement
Heat generated from radio active decay of isotopes in deep interior of earth creates molten magma in asthenosphere.
This material is less dense so rises up to near the crust, they then cool and sink again.
This caused the plates on top to move depending on the convention current - destructive / constructive / conservation
What forces drive plate movement ?
Slab pull
Ridge push
Convection currents
