Tectonic Plates Flashcards

1
Q

Describe a collision

A

Collision margins are where two plates of crust move together. The crust is forced up to form fold mountains. The Indian plate is moving to the Eurasian plate this is forming the Himalayas.

Q

Describe constructive plates

A

Construction margins move away from each other. Magma or molten rock automatically fills any possible gaps. The Atlantic Ocean is widening about 3 cm each year, which means the Americas are moving away from Eurasia and Africa.

Q

Describe conservative plates

A

Constructive margins are found where two plates slide past one another.
However, earthquakes can happen if the two plates stick. The Sun Andreas fault marked the junction of the specific in North American plates.
