- Boosted industry with mass prod. of shells + became key weapon
What did army leaders initially think about tanks?
Too impractical so REJECTED

- During the Battle of the Sommes, used for 1st time.
- Advanced infantry, crushed barbed wire defences etc
- Alarmed G and rose Brit morale
What was the problems with the tanks?
- Old, slow , unreliable and hard to manoeuvre

-Tanks were a success.. but TOO MUCH. Too far 4 infantry 2 keep up

- Uses armour piercing MG bullets and adapted field guns to fire @ tanks.
- Tanks were virt. impossible 2 miss=large & slow
- Signif boost to G morale

- 1 MG could fire 8 bullet/sec and trenches had many
- Charge towards trench? Costly dude
The BOS was devastating for the brits. War commanders were.. for.. guns

How did MG usage develop?
- START: Brits had same ratio of guns to men
- 1918: Most platoons had own guns. Effective in action like capture of ST QUENTIN CANAL
