Renaissance
A period of European history from the 14th-17th centuries. It occurred after the Middle Ages and was a rebirth of culture
Dissection
The action of cutting something open especially a dead body or plant in order to study its structure
Transfusión
An act of transferring donated blood
Penicillin
A type of antibiotics which are used to treat infections caused by bacteria.
Revolution
A very big change which occurs during a short period of time
Industrial revolution
The rapid social and economic changes which took place in Britain from one 1750 to 1900 for example the introduction of mechanical tools and the growth of industrial cities
Urban
An area typically in the city that is very developed and has many buildings and factories.
Locomotives
A way of transportation that is powered by coal and steam
Mills
Factories were machines are used to weave cotton into cloth
Overseer
They were like the factory managers and were given the job of making the children work as hard as possible
Pauper apprentice
Poor children often orphans that were sent to work in a factory
Overcrowding
When there’s too many people in a limited space which allows diseases to spread easily
Cholera
A fatal disease caused by contaminated water
Chloroform
A chemical compound which is a colourless strong smelling dense liquid used for a woman giving birth to put them to sleep
Microbe
A small living organism which includes viruses bacteria fungi and protists
Septic
The body is extreme response to an infection when a wound or a part of the body is infected with bacteria
Dialysis machine
Machine which filters and cleans a patient blood when a patient has damaged kidneys
Keyhole surgery
A type of surgical procedures that allows a surgeon to access the inside of the patient’s body without having to make large incisions
Luddites
A term used for people who dislike technology and try to destroy machines in factories
Agriculture revolution
A period of time between the mid-17th and late 19th centuries where there are improvements in the farming systems. Machines are more commonly used and land organisations is a lot better.
Enigma machines
A machine used by Germans to transmit coded messages during World War Two
