Information and communications technology: The computing and communications systems an organisation might use to exchange information with stakeholders.
Intranets
Communication networks which can only be accessed by a business’ employees
Extranets
Communication networks that can be accessed by other organisations such as suppliers or government.
How ICT can benefit a business (location)
The use of a business’ ICT systems can allow them to operate in many different locations. People can work from home and overseas call centres can be used to reduce labour costs.
Cloud computing
General term for the delivery of specialist computing services such as the storage of very large amounts of data provided by businesses using the internet.
How can ICT benefit a business (collecting, storing and analysing information)
Users data can be used to target customers with appropriate goods and services as well as improving a business’ services.
E-commerce
The act of buying and selling products using an electronic system such as the internet.
How technology impacts a business
Firms need to keep up with technological progress or they’ll fall behind competitors. For example: resturants which don’t have the option to book online will lose popularity. Keeping up with technology requires time and money to install technology and train staff how to use it, however increases in productivity outweigh the initial costs.
Types of E-commerce
Online advertising, auctions, online bookings, online purchases, online shopping, websites, mobile apps, electronic payments, internet banking and social networks.

Promoting products or services through the internet to expand the customer base
Online auctions
Allows customers to access the auction at all times and place bids over longer periods of time.
Online bookings
Allows a business to organise it’s bookings online and makes it easier for customers to make bookings
Online purchases
Allows a business to make purchases and sell products more efficiently as there’s no need for a physical interaction or store.
Online shopping
Allows customers to reach a business at any time from anywhere, increasing sales and removes the need for a physical store

A platform for a busines to sell products and services and to give information about the business
