Q
What is Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)?
A
Argues that many existing psychotherapies are ‘emotion suppressing therapies’. EFT seeks to resolve unpleasant emotions by working WITH them.
Emotion is fundamentally adaptive. Principles of EFT include:

- Emotion tells us what is personally important
- Emotion helps us survive by providing an efficient, automatic way of responding rapidly to important situations
- Emotion prepares us for action.
