Empathy is an understanding (accurate reflecting, not relating to yourself). Helps person feel understood and heard. Validates clients’ feelings

* Reflecting to them the underlying meaning
* At times, what they haven’t directly stated, but what they mean
* Statement, not a question
What are some signs you are on the right track when using reflective listening?
