What is aeroplane technical log?
A system for recording defects and malfunctions discovered during the operation and for recording details of all maintenance carried out between scheduled visits to the base maintenance facility.
In addition it contains information relevant to flight safety that the crew needs to know.
Which items are included in the technical log?
- Time log
- Complaint/action log
- Hold Item Reference list
- Hold item display
- Briefing card
- Damage chart
- Fuelling record
- Daily check list (used by technicians)
- Cabin log (Is not a formal part of the technical log but used to ensure that all cabin defects are transfered into technical log).
What is the purpose of the aeroplane technical log?
To maintain and follow up on the aircraft technical status as well as evaluate fitness for intended operations.
What are the responibilities of the technical department?
Develop, implement and follow up the tech log system as well as store and keep all maintanence records.
Checks before flights ensured by:
- Certified staff during daily check
- Commander
- All maintanance carried out and entered into tech log.
All complaints closed or properly deferred
Daily check performed
- Evaluate technical status for intended flight
Check briefing card
Check Hold Item List for remaining not closed defects and implication on intended operation
Check complaint/action log for the last three days
Enusre release into service is valid by checking time log for daily check validity (72 hrs) and complaint/action log that all complaints are closed or properly deferred.
Sign PFI
Ensure all required entries are made (defects found during PFI, de-icing procedure if required etc)
What should be reported before arrival to home base?
OCC shall be informed about technical status of aircraft 10-15 minutes before landing and technicians could be requested.
What should be done after the flight?
Fill in the time log according to procedure
Report all known or suspected defects and exceedance of aircraft operational limitations
How should technical log be stored?
In the flight deck during the flight
Removed by the FC or technical staff for long turnaround or overnight parking.
In technical operations department when aircraft is out of service.
Who is authorized to make entries into the tech log?
Commander or certified staff.
What actions are related to the white, pink and green slips of the time log?
White sheet is a filing copy
Pink copy is non removable
Green copy be left at departure station (if not able via ACARS)
Complaint/Action log
How many complaints can be entered within one sequence number?
One
What information should be included in complaint?
At least:
Time of observation/stage of flight
Master warning/caution, instrument indication and/or other eveidences of improper function
Other relevant flight and/or system parameters
If VR or FSR will be completed it should be added to complaints log for reference
What happens upon arrival to base if commander decided to dispatch with not closed defect in accordance to appropriate procedure?
Complaint shall be reopened, handled properly and completed by signing CRS.
What info does the briefing card contain?
Info regarding modifications, test, irregularities effecting the operation of individual aircraft.
Where is damage chart kept?
Kept in aircraft document binder.
