the use of technology to move, record, and process information. IT includes computers, communication satellites, cell phones, and the internet.
caste system
separates people based on what caste they were born in. this decides what jobs they get but today caste are changing and people are moving up in the tiers.
outsource
To hire someone outside a company to work a job that was once done inside the company. Using Information Technology we can outsource jobs to businesses outside of the country.
Time zone advantage
means that they will send over jobs for lower prices making the company get more profit.
Comparative advantages
The ability of one country to provide a service or a good at a lower cost or more effectively than another country.
Two factors that give India an advantage
India has one of the lowest prices in the world. Cutting the wages in half by shifting work forces over to india.
Almost all educated Indians speak English, which is helpful for jobs that require the workers to communicate with Americans. Traders brought the English language in the 1600’s. British officials set up schools where the Indians were taught in English.
Third factor India in favor
access to education. About 3 million people graduate from college with degrees in math, engineering, and science.
Positive outsourcing affect
The work will get done by well-trained workers
Obstacles for outsourcing in India
About 350 million people don’t know how to read or write. Even though 14 is the age you must attend school by but most end up helping out families.
Main outsourcing drawback
Americans lose their jobs when the U.S. outsources IT jobs to other countries while the other countries gain job opportunities.
