TD-194 Frederik ✔ Flashcards
When is an alternate airfield required for an IFR flight?
- Predominant wx at ETA through one hour after ETA is less than- (400-1 above wx planning)
- Ceiling 400 feet above the wx planning minimum.
- Visibility one mile greater than the planning minimum.
- Radar is required to execute the approach.
- The instrument approach naviagtional aids to be used are unmonitored.
When is a course reversal maneuver or procedure turn not authorized?
When cleared for a straight in approach or when cleared via a NoPT route.
When encountering moderate turbulence, what should airspeed be limited to? What should you use as your primary pitch instrument? Should you use IAS and ALT hold modes on the FD/DCP during moderate turbulence?
For moderate turbulence, limit airspeed to the MAX RANGE or Vne minus 15 knots, whichever is less.
You should disengage IAS and ALT hold on the FD/DCP. Use constant power setting and a level-flight attitude in order to keep airspeed relatively constant.
How will an aircraft react to moderate turbulence/chop? What will occupants feel inside the aircraft?
Changes in altitude and/or attitude occur, but aircraft remain in positive control at all times. It usually causes variations in indicated airspeed. Causes rapid bumps or jolts.
Occupants feel definite straings against seat belts or shoulder straps. Unsecured objects are dislodged.
(Food services and walking are difficult. :D direct from FM 1-203)
How is a Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) ARC intercepted?
- Track inbond on the radial frequently cheking the DME milage readout.
- A 0.5 nm lead is atisfactory for ground speeds of 150 knots or less, start the turn. (At higher ground speeds, use a proportionately greater lead).
- Continue the turn for about 90 degrees. (depending on wind).
- During the last part of the intercepting turn, monitor the DME closely.
- If arc is being overshot (more than 1 nm), continue through tge originally planned rollout heading.
- If the arc is being undershot, roll out of the turn early.
What must be done to get VOR DME information to display?
VOR must be selected on the FD/DCP as navigation source.
When is a Pilot Weather Report (PIREP) required to be transmitted to an Air Route Traffic Control Center, Terminal Air Traffic Controller or Flight Service Station?
When encountering weather conditions which have not been forecast, or hazardous conditions which have been foreccast.
What are the Physiological (Self Imposed) Stressors?
Although crewmembers often have limited control over many aspects of aviation-related stress,
they can exert significant control over self-imposed stress. Many crewmembers engage in maladaptive behaviors that are potentially debilitating and threaten aviation safety. This category can be remembered using the acronym DEATH, which stands for drugs, exhaustion, alcohol, tobacco, and hypoglycemia (discussed further in chapter 8).
You want to do the LOC approach at an airspeed of 120 knots. In the current NOTAMs you notice the ALS is inop, how will this affect any landing or planning minimums?
The planing minimum vis must be increased to 1 mile.
