TCAS Flashcards
What is proximate traffic
Within 6 miles and 1200 feet vertically
At what point does proximate traffic become a TA
When the other airplane is approx 40 seconds from the closest point of approach
Pilot actions for a TA
Look for traffic
Call any conflict
If traffic is sighted, manoeuvre if needed
At what point does a TA become an RA
When the other airplane is approx 25 seconds from the point of closest approach
Pilot actions for RA
If manoeuvring is required……
Disengage autopilot and auto throttle
Smoothly adjust pitch and thrust to satisfy the RA command
When are increase descent RA’s inhibited
Below 1500 feet radio altitude
When are descend RA’s inhibited
Below 1100 feet radio altitude
When are all RA’s inhibited
Below 1000 feet radio altitude. If TA/RA mode is selected, TA mode is enabled automatically and TA ONLY displays on traffic display
When are TCAS voice annunciations inhibited
Below 500 feet radio altitude
Are all TCAS alerts inhibited by wind shear warnings
Yes
When should a descend RA NOT be followed
Below 1000 feet AGL
Pilot actions for RA in landing configuration
Disengage autopilot and autothrottle
Advance thrust levers to maximum
Call for flaps 15
Smoothly adjust pitch to satisfy the RA command
PM call ‘Positive Rate’
PF call ‘Gear Up’
Pilot actions if stick shaker occurs during RA manoeuvre
Immediately accomplish the approach to stall recovery
