The Americas
Indigenous
Occurring natively or naturally in a particular region or environment.
Maya
Built their cities in forests, and are credited with creating things such as pyramids, and lived in what is now present-day Europe.
Aztec
Built their cities on water, and sacrificed people and planned cities. They are credited with creating the calendars. They live in present day Mexico.
Inca
Lived in the sky, and live in present day Peru.
The Columbian Exchange
The exchange between the Old and New Americas for goods and materials.
Encomienda
The Feudal system that the Spanish put into place.
Missions System
Created new communities where the Native Americans received religious education and instruction.
Conquistador
Explores or soldiers of both the Spanish and Portuguese empires.
Hernan Cortez
In search of both gold and glory, he sought out the Aztec’s, and used his more advanced weapons to frighten them, and soon defeated them with the help of a Mayan women, and germs such as smallpox, or measles.
Fransisco Pizzaro
Took over the Inca’s by kidnapping their leader and threatening him with the use of ransom. Not long after, the tribe turned on the leader, and he was sentenced to death.

A Spanish clergyman, writer, and activist who is best known for his work as a historian and social reformer.
