What is the aetiology of TCA overdose?
A
Tricyclic antidepressants have a narrow therapeutic index and therefore become potent cardiovascular and central nervous system toxins in moderate doses.

- Change in mental status
- Tachycardia
- Hypotension
- Mydriasis
- Warm, dry, flushed skin
- Decreased or absent bowel sounds
- Urinary retention
- Ophthalmic signs
- Neurological signs

What is the management for TCA overdose?
A
Supportive care and management
Activated charcoal
If QRS >100ms - sodium bicarb
IV fluids
Consider gastric lavage
