latent TB (+TB skin test, disease not yet active)
treatment is 6-9 months

Isoniazid side effects

A

GI S/S (N, V, Constipation)
Liver dmg or failure (common in older adults and ETOHers)
peripheral neuropathy
CNS S/S (dizzy, ataxia, seizures, psychotic symptoms)

A
monitor and report GI symptoms
encourage compliance with drug regimen
monitor liver enzyme levels
report signs of liver dmg
administer B6 for neuropathy

Rifampin uses

A
given in conjunction with Isoniazid
orally or IV
1 hr before or 2 hours after meal
absorption is decreased with food
decreases blood levels of oral contraceptives, warfarin.
