  • longitudinal roll over protection along the top
  • aluminum and are the thickest 3/16 inch on the bottom and gradually gets thinner.
  • plumbing and valves for off-loading under tank
  • manhole and vapor recovery valves on top.

Tanker incident- leak

  • eliminate potential ignition source a minimum of 100 feet
  • turn off ignition
  • combustible gas indicators: check battery area: must be below 10LEL before disconnecting or disable battery
  • set perimiters using monitors
  • contain run off
  • affected area, cover with foam and reapply as needed.
  • IC needs to plan for appropriate amount of foam.

  • handle like standard fire using 1 1/2 hose.
  • cool tank and keep visible wet
  • spot uphill and upwind
  • fuel tank is secondary hazard

Tanker incident- fire involving spilled liquid or tanker

  • May overwhelm the capabilities of first arriving fire units
  • spot uphill and upwind
  • secure water supply
  • do not use plain water unless its to perform a rescue
  • use foam lines
  • dike to prevent product in storm drains
    IC must decide to use
  • deffensive attack
  • offensive attack
  • or combo
  • determain amount of foam concentrate, 15min with an additional 15 for maintenance blanket
  • apply in a soft arc
  • never flow water into tank, fire will spread

Storm drains

  • initial defensive action; prevent products from entering storm drains (dike or cover)
  • Contact appropriate agency
  • monitor areas for explosive or pool flammable vappors
  • Hazmat TF and squads enhance perimiter surveying
