What did Taylor suggest?
You should monitor and observe your workers, develop the ‘Best’ way of completing job and managers can then define clear procedure for employees. Managers can provide training based on this (efficient.) Lastly, calculate realistic target out put per day
What style of leadership does it link to?
Autocratic management: with managers taking all the decisions and simply give orders to those below them
Problems with Taylor’s scientific management?
- workers began to dislike Taylor’s approach as they were only given boring, repetitive tasks to carry out
-firms could lay off workers as productivity levels increased this led to an increase in strikes and other forms of industrial action
Advantages of Taylor’s science management?
-enhanced production
-ability to control
-decrease in inaccuracy
-quick decision making
-efficiency increased
Disadvantages?
-requires capital initially
-demotivating approach
-not suitable for teams
-stress
