Entertainment-Education
refers to media that can both ‘entertain and educate, ignorer to increase audience members’ knowledge about an educational issue, create favourable attitudes, and change overt behaviour’
- developed with public health goals in mind
Social Cognitive Theory
suggests that actors in E-E programs can influence viewers’ outcome expectancies and self efficacy by serving as a source of social modelling
- individuals learn vicariously by observing similar others’ behaviour and its consequences
Homophily
Defined as the degree to which viewers perceive themselves to be like characters in terms of traits, abilities, and backgrounds
– character does not have to be from the media
Parasocial interaction
Occurs when the viewer perceives a relationship of friendship with the media personality based on affective ties with that persona
– only towards someone on the media
