Improving your chances of survival
Be aware of your environment and any possible dangers.
Take note of the two nearest exits in any facility you visit.
Secure the door and remain where you are (if you are in an office) or move to a room and secure the door (if you’re in a hallway).
Attempt to take the suspect down (as a last resort).
Call 911 when it is safe to do so!
When the suspect is at close range and you cannot flee, your chance of survival is much greater if you try to incapacitate him.
You should ask the following questions:
Can you escape?
Can you shelter in place?
Can you take cover?
Can you play dead?
Have you called law enforcement?
Are you prepared to attack the attacker?
In addition to knowledge of the doors and furniture, what should you know?
Which rooms have a landline phone so that you can call law enforcement. Also a landline phone displays your precise location to 911 operator, whereas your cellular phone might display the nearest cellular tower.
