Tamponade Flashcards
1
Q
Describe hepatic vein flow in restrictive cardiomyopathy, constrictive pericarditis and cardiac tamponade.
A
Remember RICE!
RESTRICTIVE – hepatic vein flow is reversed in INSPIRATION
CONSTRICTIVE and TAMPONADE (physiology is same) – with EXPIRATION, left ventricular filling increases limiting right ventricular filling and hepatic vein diastolic forward flow (D wave) decreases, with pronounced flow reversals
