Adson’s Sign
The loss of radial pulse in the arm during abduction and external rotation at the shoulder. Positive suggests TOS.
Allen’s Test
Tight fist, occlude either radial or ulnar artery, release fist, failure of blood to return to the palm/fingers indicates obstruction in the artery that has not been compressed. Should be done before a-line or cath.
Andersen-Tawil Syndrome
Disorder that causes episodes of muscle weakness (periodic paralysis), changes in heart rhythm (arrhythmia) and developmental abnormalities. MC heart affects are ventricular arrhythmias and long QT syndrome. Type 1 is linked to KCNJ2 gene; Type 2 cause is unknown.
Anitschkow Myocytes
Large mononuclear cells found in connective tissue of the heart wall in inflammatory conditions like rheumatic fever.
Aschoff Body
A granulomatous inflammation characteristic of acute rheumatic carditis, consisting of fibrinoid changes in connective tissue and lymphocytes.
Ashmann’s Phenomenon
m
