TAD Overdose Flashcards
1
Q
TAD Overdose Four Effects
A
Inhibition of noradrenalin reuptake, alpha adrenergic block, membrane stabilising effect on myocardium, anticholinergic action
2
Q
TAD Overdose Presentation
A
Affects peripheral autonomic nervous system, CVS, CNS
- Anticholinergic effects: dry mouth, blurred vision, dilated pupils, hyperthermia, delayed gastric emptying
- CV effects: Sinus tachycardia, (inhibition of noradrenalin uptake), myocardial stability; slowed depolarisation, wide QRS complexes and PR/QT intervals, hypotension
- CNS effects: Coma, seizures,
3
Q
TAD Overdose Management
A
Airway protection, activated charcoal (within 1 hour if airways secure), sodium bicarbonate, fluids, benzodiazepines for seizures, blood pH, ECG
