Tac Vent Flashcards
Signs and symptoms of a flashover
- Ventilated fire
- Rapid increase in temp
- Flames in the over pressure
- Lowering of the over pressure
- Increased rate of pyrolysis at low level
- An increase in the speed and / or turbulence of the gas flow indicates that the situation is moving rapidly towards fully developed
Signs and symptoms of back draft
- Limited ventilation
- Oily deposits on windows etc
- Hot doors and windows
- Pulsating smoke and gases from gaps around the doors / windows
- Lack of visible flame
If attacking a fire externally, prior to BA teams attacking, what stream of water must be used?
A jet (straight stream)
When using a direct attack on the seat of the fire a narrower cone or straight jet should be utilised. Why is this?
They have more penetration of the fuel source enabling quicker more efficient cooling of the fuel.
When creating a vent in a fire compartment what is the ideal location for the vent?
As close to the fire as possible
Thick dark smoke is a sign of what?
Contains more unburnt fuel
How does ventilation influence a fire?
Ventilation supplies more air to a fire thus increasing its intensity
Fuel controlled fires are found in what stage of fire development?
Early stages
Ventilation controlled fires are found at what stage of fire development?
Flash over stage
Ventilation controlled fires produce a lot of smoke true or false?
True
What is phase 1 PPV?
Sequential ventilation. Getting rid of smoke after an incident
What is phase 2 PPV?
When crews create a vent (tac vent!)
What is phase 3 PPV?
When a vent is already available on arrival
