T5 - Formulae, Equation and amount of substance Flashcards
Mole
The unit for an amount of a substance. The amount of chemical species found in 12g of C-12
Avogadro’s Constant
The amount of atoms in exactly 12g of C-12
Molar Mass
The mass of one mole of a substance.
Empirical Formula
Smallest whole number ratio of each element in a compound
Molecular Formula
The actual number of atoms of each element in a substance
Spectator Ions
Ions that don’t participate in a reaction
Hydrate
A compound that has water molecules attached to it (Not bonded into compound)
Concordant Results
Results that lie very close between each other (Usually 0.1 or 0.2)
Margin of Error
The range in which the true value of a measurement could lie
Percentage uncertainty
(Uncertainty/Reading) * 100
Percentage yield
(Actual yield/Theoretical yield) * 100
Atom economy
(Molar mass of desired products/ Total molar mass of all products) * 100
Avogadro’s Law
Provided that conditions of temperature and pressure are the same, equal volume of gases contain the same number of molecules
Precipitation reaction
The one that produces a insoluble solid
Moles
- Mass/Mr
- Concentration * Volume
