Where is Clevedon?
Seaside town on the Southbank of the Bristol Channel, North Somerset 14miles from Bristol and 10 miles from WSM.
What recent Changes have been made in Clevedon?
Beach Road + Hill Road:
- In 2022 £1.3 million spent on new parking, wider pavements, cycle path, one way road and roundabout, £425,000 being spent to reverse parking changes.
- NSC wanted to make it more accessible, and assessed changes and with opinions of locals decided to reverse parking changes.
- ¾ of local businesses said they had lower footfall + cyclists saw the path isn’t wide enough to use.
Marine Lake:
- Opened in 1929 and brought vast volumes of tourists to Clevedon until 1970s due to foreign competition
- In 2014 Marlen’s led 800,000 regeneration schemes + 60,000 new toilets in 2021
- Caused Clevedon to be known as a honey pot and in 2022 £6million spent in local economy, 30% increase in tourists
What Qualitative Sources have been used to represent Clevedon?
- Paintings = the spirit of Clevedon, train station mural. Gives overview of landmarks just snapshots but no changing character
- Social media/Facebook = everything else Clevedon – RIP seafront, agenda due to Nimbyism
- Poems = a pier without peer by Peter Gibbs, ‘Our civic pride regained, for yet born Clevedonians an asset now retained’
- TV/film = One Direction You and I music video
What Quantitative sources have been used to represent Clevedon?
- There are 23% more old people living in north Clevedon than there is in yeo Clevedon
- 98% of Clevedon is white
- 30% decrease in Christian people in Clevedon in 10yrs
- Post motorway junction in 1970 Clevedon’s population doubled
- However, this isn’t always accurate because people put their religion as ‘jedi’
