Q

How do TCells are able to distinguish difference between these cells and own cells? (4)

A
  1. Phagocytes that have engulfed &hydrolysed a pathogen present some of the pathogens antigens on their surface
  2. Body cells invaded by a virus present viral antigens on their surface - distress signals
  3. Cancer cells are different from normal cells and present them on their surface
  4. Transplanted cells from the same species have different antigens on their cell surface

Q

What do the receptors respond to?

A

The receptors on each Tcell respond to a single antigen. There are a huge number of different TCells that each respond to a different antigen

Q

What is a Cytotoxic TCell?

A

Tc cells attack abnormal body cells. Produce a protein molecule called perforin the makes holes in the the cell-surface membrane. This makes the cell freely permeable killing it. This action is very affective against viruses as they replicate inside the cells
