Q

What do phagocytes lead to at the site of infection? What does it contain?

A

Lead to inflammation at the site of infection, the swelling contains dead pathogens and phagocytes (puss)

Q

What is inflammation caused by?

A

Histamine

Causes dilation of the blood vessels. This speeds up the delivery of phagocytes to the site of infection

Q

Phagocytosis steps (5)

A
  1. A phagocyte recognises the foreign antigens on a pathogen
  2. The cytoplasm of the phagocyte moves round the pathogen engulfing it
  3. The pathogen is now contained in a phagocytic vacuole in the cytoplasm of the phagocyte
  4. A lysosomes fuses with the phagocytic vacuole. The lysozyme break down the pathogen
  5. The phagocyte then present the pathogens antigens
