Phagocytes Flashcards
1
Q
Are the nonspecific or specific?
A
Non specific
2
Q
Where are they in the body?
A
Travel in the blood but can move out into other tissues
3
Q
What do phagocytes lead to at the site of infection? What does it contain?
A
Lead to inflammation at the site of infection, the swelling contains dead pathogens and phagocytes (puss)
4
Q
What is inflammation caused by?
A
Histamine
Causes dilation of the blood vessels. This speeds up the delivery of phagocytes to the site of infection
5
Q
Phagocytosis steps (5)
A
- A phagocyte recognises the foreign antigens on a pathogen
- The cytoplasm of the phagocyte moves round the pathogen engulfing it
- The pathogen is now contained in a phagocytic vacuole in the cytoplasm of the phagocyte
- A lysosomes fuses with the phagocytic vacuole. The lysozyme break down the pathogen
- The phagocyte then present the pathogens antigens
