T Cell-Mediated Immunity Flashcards
What does the T cell need to recognise on the dendritic cell to become activated?
The complex of a peptide antigen and a MHC molecule on a dendritic cell (APC)
What is the role of effector T cells?
Some remain in the secondary lymphoid tissue to help B cells to become antibody producing cells
Others travel to sites of infection where they work in various ways to terminate infection
What is the first stage of a primary adaptive immune response?
T-cell activation
Where is the T cell response to infections of the skin and peripheral tissues made?
Draining lymph nodes
Where does the T cell response to blood infections happen?
In the spleen
What are dendritic cells in the skin and other peripheral tissues called?
Immature dendritic cells
What is the function of dendritic cells?
Transport pathogens and their antigens from the site of infection to the T-cell areas of the draining lymph node
Why does IgM have limited tissue penetration?
it is a pentamer
What two signals are required to stimulate a naive CD8 T cell to differentiate into a cytotoxic T cell?
MHC Class 1 on the dendritic cell (containing peptides from the pathogen) binding to the T cell receptor
B7 on the dendritic cell binds to CD28 on the naive T cell
