Q
Why is TMS (tetramethylsilane) often used as an internal reference standard for the calibration of HNMR spectroscopy?
A
- chemical shift/signal outside range of common chemical shift/signal
- strong signal (all (12) H atoms in same environment)
- singlet/no splitting of signal
- volatile/easy to remove/easily separated
- inert/stable
- soluble in most organic solvents
