Systems (Circulatory) Flashcards
1
Q
What is the overall function?
A
- Transporting oxygen and nutrients everywhere
2
Q
What makes up the circulatory system?
A
- Artery
- Vessels
- Capillaries
- Veins
3
Q
Circulatory System Function: Arteries
A
- The heart pumps blood through arteries
4
Q
Circulatory System Function: Vessels
A
- Arteries branch off into blood vessels
5
Q
Circulatory System Function: Capillaries
A
- Small blood vessels are called capillaries, blood exchanges with tissues
6
Q
Circulatory System Function: Veins
A
- After the exchange, blood flows into veins then back to the heart
7
Q
What is blood made up of?
A
- Red and white blood cells, platelets, and plasma
8
Q
Coronary Artery
A
- Blood vessels that provide blood to heart tissue
9
Q
Diseases
A
- Coronary Artery Disease
- Heart Attack
10
Q
Disease: Coronary Artery Disease
A
- When coronary arteries become partially blocked with plaque. Plaque buildup can be caused by bad genetics or poor lifestyle choices
11
Q
Disease: Heart Attack
A
- When plaque builds up so nothing can get through anymore. The heart is no longer able to get the nutrients and oxygen it needs. Heart tissue begins to die
12
Q
Organs Involved
A
- The heart. The hearts job is to pump blood so it can be transported everywhere
13
Q
Blood
A
- Red blood cell membrane contain glycoproteins
- The glycoproteins are called RBC antigens
- RBC antigens help your immune system recognize RBCS as a part of your system
- There are two types of RBC antigens, A and B
- Your immune system can only tolerate your RBC antigen, meaning you must get the same type
14
Q
Positive or Negative?
A
If you have an RH factor (protein found on the surface of red blood cells) your blood will be positive, if not it will be negative
15
Q
Cardiac Output
A
The volume of blood pumped by the heart (mL)
