Systems Flashcards
What are the arcs on the airspeed guage?
White Arcs- Flaps Down Range 35-85
Green Arc: Normal Operating Range 40-111
Yellow Arc: Caution Range: Smooth Air Only 111-149
Red Line: Never Exceed Speed 149
What are the lower limits of the white and green arcs? What do they mean?
VS0= stalling speed of minimum steady flight in landing configuration
VS1 stalling speed or minimum controllable flight in clean configuration.
What are some unmarked speeds?
Va= Manuevering Speed= 104 knots Vx= 55 Knots Vy= 67 Knots Best Glide= 60 Approach= 60
What are primary flight controls and how are they used?
ALR- Ailerons, Longitudinal Roll, Lateral Stability
ELP- Elevator, Lateral, Pitch, Longitudinal Stability
RVY- Rudder, Vertical, Yaw, Directional Stability
What happens if you turn the yoke left?
Left aileron goes into wind, causes A/C to bank to the left
How does the aircraft turn?
Turns by banking wings in direction of turn via ailerons
Talk about the fuel system
2 Tanks. 26 gallons total. 13 per side. 24.5 usable. Gravity Fed into the engine
Where can you shut off the fuel system?
Mixture Idle Cutoff or Fuel Shutoff Valve
Alternator died and the battery is also discharged. You have no radio and need to land. What do you do?
Squawk 7600, remain outside of airspace until direction of traffic can be ascertained, maintain visual contact with tower and acknowledge light gun signals
When is it okay to declare an emergency?
Whenever you feel that the flight is unsafe or in distress. Better to have called an emergency than not?
What do you do to declare an emergency?
Call 121.5 and squawk 7700
What is 7500?
Squawk for an hijacking
Oil Pressure Markings
25 PSI (Red Line) 60-90 Normal Operating Range (Green) 115 PSI (Red)
Oil Temperature Markings
100-245 F (Green) 245 F (Red)
What happens if you use carb heat at full throttle?
It’ll result in a loss of approximately 150 RPM
