Required Inspections
A- Annual (Preceding 12 months)
A- ADs complied with
V- VOR 30 days (IFR)
1- 100 Hour (Flight Instruction or for hire)
A- Altimeter and Statis Pressure System 24 months
T- Transponder 24 months
E- ELT 12 months
When does the ELT need to be replaced?
When the ELT has been used for more than 1 cumulative hour
Reached 50% of its useful life
Who needs 100 hour inspections?
All A/C under 12,500 pounds used to carry PAX for hire and A/C for flight instruction of hire)
Who conducts 100 hour and Annual Inspections?
Annual Inspections must be signed off with A&P mechanic with an IA (Inspection Authorization)
100 Hours may be signed off by regular A&P Mechanic
What are ADs?
ADs are the medium in which the FAA notifies A/C operators/owners of unsafe conditions that may exist because of design defects or other causes.
Regulatory in nature and compliance is mandatory
What inspection is required but not in the logbook?
Preflight inspection

Can you fly a plane with no landing lights?
During the day, yes
If there’s no landing lights available and you want to fly what can you do?
You can get a special flight permit obtained from the nearest FSDO (KYIP). Allows you to fly to another location for maintenance. Plane does not meet current airworthiness requirements but is capable of safe flight.
What preventative maintenance can you do as a private pilot? 14 CFR Part 43 Appendix C.
Removal, installation and repair of landing gear tires
Replacing hydraulic fluid, replacing seat belts or seat parts, cleaning and replacing fuel and oil strainers or filters, etc
What is a SAIB?
Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin. Non-regulatory info and guidance that doesnt meet the requirement for an AD.
