What does the cardiovascular system consist of?

A

The heart (cardio), blood and blood vessels (vascular)

What does the cardiovascular system do?

A

It works to get blood around the system. Blood carries oxygen which keeps our bodies alive. Blood vessels bring blood back to the heart, arteries take the blood away.

What is the difference between your blood pressure and your pulse?

A

Your pulse is how many time your heart ‘pumps’ blood around the body with each beat.
Your blood pressure is the force of blood against the artery walls. It’s recorded as the heart beats (systolic pressure) and as the heart relaxes between beats (dialostic pressure).

To breakdown food so that it can be used by cells for energy, growth and repair.

What happens when food enters the body?

A
  1. Travels down our oesophagus into the stomach
  2. The stomach valve opens allowing food in
  3. Acids in the stomach break the food down into thick soup
  4. Soup travels into small intestine where nutrients are absorbed through the walls and into the blood stream
  5. Anything left goes into large intestine where rest of nutrients and water are absorbed
  6. Anything left over travels into rectum and stored there until ready to poo

A

Consists of lymph vessels, lymph nodes and fluid called lymph. It helps the filter and destroy toxins and germs

A

It’s made up of glands that release chemical messengers or hormones into the blood stream.

A

The system that gets rid of waste from the body in the form of urine.

What do the kidneys do?

A

They remove unwanted salts and chemical waste from the blood. This waste combines with water to form urine.

What is the female reproductive system made up of and what does it do?

A

It produces eggs which enables a woman to have sex, nourish a baby and give birth.

It’s made up of the vagina, uterus, Fallopian tubes, ovaries and the breasts.

A

Enables a man to have sex and fertilise the ovum with sperm.

It’s made up of the penis, scrotum, testes, prostate gland and seminal vesicles.
