What do they cause?
Type of fungi?
Treatment: local vs systemic
Pulm infections and disseminate; cause granuloma formation; can’t be tranmitted from person to person
Dimorphic Fungi
cold (20C) - mold; heat (37.5C) - yeast
local - fluconazole or itraconazole
Systemic - amphotericin B
Histoplasmosis

Mississippi/Ohio river valley; bats&birds droppings
small oval yeast w/in macrophage
palatal/tongue ulcers; splenomegaly
dx via urine/serum antigen
Blastomycosis

E/Central USA
broad based budding (same size RBC)
Inflammatory Lung Disease –> bone/skin
verrucous skin lesions can cause SCC
forms granulomatous nodule
Coccidioidomycosis

spherule w/ endospores
pulm syndrome –> meningitis & bone
erythema nodosum/multiforme
Arthralgias (“desert rheumatism”)
