branching septate hyphae visible on KOH w/ blue fungal stain

yeast like fungus (not dermatophyte)
degradation of lipids produfces acids that damage melanocytes & cause hypo/hyperpigmented and/or pink patches
more common in summer
microscopy: “spaghetti & meatballs”
