systematic reviewing Flashcards
hierachy of paper
cochrane SR, MA and SR, evidence guidelines evidence summaries RCT, case control cohort case reports
what are the types of bias
Selection bias: based on baseline characteristics between the 2 groups ie need a seq generator
Performance bias: eg between groups in the care provided or exposure to other factors ie need blinding
Attrition bias: Systematic differences between groups in withdrawal
Detection bias: systematic difference between groups in how outcomes are determined
Reporting bias: systematic difference between reported and unreported
what are RCT
intervention control
what are case control
2 groups observed as to how they differ in outcome always retrospective. so 2 groups one with outcome one without and then look at what they were expose too.
what are cohort studies
usually prospective ie one large group and see who gets disease and who doesnt
if retro then both exposure and outcome already happended so assessing it like prospective data
what are guidelines
systematically developed statements designed to help practitioners and patients decide on appropriate healthcare for specific clinical conditions and or circumstances
what is a critical appraisal
process of carefully and systematically assessing outcomes of scientific evidence
what is performance bias
blinding
what is selection bias
sequence generator
attrition bias
withdrawal difference
detection bias
diff in how outcomes are determined
reporting bias
reported and unreported difference
