System Planning & Airside Capacity & Noise Flashcards
An airport master plan is defined as
It presents the planner’s conception of the ultimate development of a specific airport.
What does a master plan NOT focus on
Operational concepts or management issues
What are the key elements of master planning?
Inventory existing conditions, definging a forecasat of future traffic, determine facility requirements, airport site selection, develop several master plan alternatives for comparative analysis, select the most acceptable and appropriate master plan, schedule priorities in the development process, asses land use impacts and airport noise compatibility standards, financial feasability analysis
How does runway designation work?
Two digit number: magnetic direction in degrees divided by 10,
Parallel runways use addition L, C and/or R
What are master planning weaknesses?
It is based on forecasts: data from preceding years, virtual flight schedules, deceiving level of detail
What is the dynamic strategic planning process?
Inventory existing conditions
Forecast range of future traffif -> along with possible scenarios for its major components)
Determine facility requirements suitbale for the several levels and types of traffic
Develop several alternatives for comprative analysis
Select the most acceptable first phase developments, the one that enables subsequent and appropriate responses to the possible future conditions
What factors affect the runway length required?
Weight of aircraft, weather (wind and temperature), airport elevation, presence of obstacles and runway characteristics
Maximum throughput capacity
Average number of runway operations that can be performed per hour
Declared capacity
Capacity per hour used for specifying number of available slots, No standard for determination of LOS, typically 85-90% of max throughput
Which four engines are there
Piston engine, turboprop, turbojet, turbofan
How is sound percieved?
Intensity (volume) in dB frequency in hertz and exposure time is sec
Sound Pressure Level (SPL)
= 10log(p^2/pe0^2)
