System overview Flashcards

1
Q

What is the function of the endocrine system

Q

What does the hypothalamus do?

A

Is a structure deep within the brain, an area which is an organ that links between the endocrine system and nervous system. It is a part of the brain and produces hormones that regulate hunger, thirst, heart rate mood, sleep, body temp

Q

How many parts/lobes does the pituitary gland have?

A

The pituitary gland has two main parts, the anterior (front) lobe

The posterior (back) lobe Each lobe has different functions. It is an Anti-diuretic hormone (ADH). Stimulates the distal and collecting
tubules in the kidneys to increase the
reabsorption of the free water into the cardiovascular system
Maintains physiologic osmolality.
