What are person, number, and tense?
The person and number of verbs can be identified by the personal endings: ō, s, t, mus, tis, nt. The present and imperfect are the two tenses that occur on the Intro Level Exam. They can be distinguished by the imperfect tense marker bā. In English the imperfect tense is transltaed by the helping verbs was and were.
Ex. laudant: they praise (3rd p. pl., present tense)
What is the imperative mood?
The imperative mood is used for commands. The imperative singular of 1st/2nd conjugation verbs is formed by dropping the re from the infinitive. The plural imperative is formed by adding te to the singular imperative.
Ex. Laudāte imperatorem! Praise the general!
What is the infinitive?
The present infinitive of 1st conjugation verbs end in āre, of 2nd conjugations in ēre. In English the infinitive is translated by the particle to + the verb.
The infinitive can be a subject or it can complete the action of the verb.
Ex. Errare est humanum. To err is human.
How are questions formed?
Yes or No Questions are formed by adding the particle -nē to the end of the first word of the sentence, usually the verb.
Other questions are formed by using interrogative adverbs.
Ex. Videsne hortum? Do you see the garden?
