Syndactyly
A condition where 2 or more digits are fused together
Acrosyndactyly
When multiple digits are involved in webbing
Types(1)
Simple: adjacent fingers/ toes are joined by soft tissue
Complex: skin and bones of adjacent digits are fused
Complete: skin is joined all the way to the tip pf the finger
Incomplete: skin is only joined part of the distance to the fingertip
Types(2)
I: webbing occurs between middle and ring fingers or second and third toe
II: long and ring fingers but has a 6th finger merged in between
III: small finger is merged into ring finger
IV: involves all fingers or toes
V: similar to type I but the metacarpals and metatarsals may be fused
Treatment
Mild and incomplete: no t/t required d
Complete: separation of conjoined structure and skin grafting
Acrosyndactyly: one web space at a time at separate operations
If border digits are affected this can cause progressive deformity with growth so early surgical correction(6mnths of age)
