CTEV Flashcards
1
Q
CTEV?
A
Congenital triplanar deformity of the foot with hindfoot in equinus and varus, midfoot in cavus, and forefoot in adduction and supination
2
Q
CTEV is also known as
A
Club foot

Q
Deformities in CTEV @CAVE
A
Cavus
Adduction/supination
Varus
Equinus
4
Q
Etiology of CTEV
A
1) idiopathic
2) secondary
5
Q
Idiopathic club foot
A
- mechanical theory: increased intrauterine force forces foot in the position of deformity
- ischemic theory
- genetic theory
6
Q
Secondary club foot
A
- paralytic disorder such as polio, spina bifida, myelodysplasia
- arthpgryposis multiplex congenita
- tibial deficiency
- constriction rings
- trisomy 21
7
Q
Subtalar movement
A
Inversion and eversion
8
Q
Ankle movement
A
Dorsiflexion and plantar flexion
9
Q
Bony changes in CTEV
A
- bones of foot smaller than normal
- neck of talus angulated
- head of talus faces downwards and medially
- calcaneum small and concave medially
10
Q
Changes in joints
A
- Equinus at ankle joint
- inversion at subtalar joint
- forefoot adduction at midtarsal joint
- midfoot cavus
11
Q
Changes in muscles and tendons in CTEV
A
- muscles of calf underdeveloped
- contraction of:
: posteriorly- tendoachilles
: medially- tibialis posterior, flexor hallucis longus and flexor digitorum longus
