- -carotid sinus syndrome - reduced cardiac output (mechanical)
- -outflow obstruction i.e aortic stenosis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myxoma
- -inflow obstruction to venous return
- -myocardial - reflex/underfill–60%
- -vasovagal
- -orthostatic/postural hypotension
- -situational

details of event–> onset, progression, position, activity, LOC, head injury
associated symptoms–> dizziness, chest pain, palpitations, anxiety
previous history
review medical conditions
medications–any recent changes?
what physical exams to do for syncope
complete CVS and neuro
what investigations to do for syncope
routine blood work ECG holter carotid dopplers echo
management of syncope
stabilize
IV fluids if needed
definitive treatment depends on cause
