synaptic transmission Flashcards
synapses
signals pass through synapses to neurons when action potential reaches the end of a neuron.
triggers release of a chemical substance (neurotransmitter) which disperses across the synapse
the neurotransmitter binds to receptor molecules on the next neuron (postsynaptic) and generates a new action potential.
neurotransmitter
chemicals that are realsed from a synaptic vessel into the synapse by neurons
then taken “back up” into the terminate buttons of neurons through the processes or reuptake or they are broken down by an enzyme
process
neurons transmit signals electrically along their axons
at the synapses signals are transmitted chemically using neurotransmitters.
nt binds to the receptor molecules on the next neuron, realeasing a new action potential.
