Nervous System Flashcards
What’s the nervous system?
Specialised network of cells
To collect, process and respond to info in the environment
Coordinated the working of different organs and cells in body
Central nervous system
Brain and spinal cord
Primary command centre
Process info from pns and decides actions
Peripheral nervous system
Transits messages via millions of neurons
Made of autoamanic and somatic nervous system
Connect res of body to cns
Somatic nervous system
Involves body parts a person can command
Voluntary movement
consists of sensory and motor neurons to carry sensory and motor information to and from cns and also enables reflex actions
Autonomic nervous system
Runs involuntarily functions and movements
Sympathetic nervous system
Fight or flight
Prepares body for activity by stimulating heart beat
Realises adrenaline
Symptoms:
Slows digestion
Increases heart rate
Dilates pupils and bronchi
Parasympathetic nervous system
‘Chill out’ response
Prepares body for relaxation
Symptoms:
Increases digestion
Stimulates bile production
Decreases urination
