Synapses Flashcards
What are synapses between motor nerves and muscle cells?
Motor-end-plates or myoneural junctions
What is a synapses ?
Connections or relay points between nerve and other nerves, between nerves and muscles, between nerves and glands, and even between nerves and capillaries
What is the function of a synapse?
To change the electrical activity of the targeted cell so it will fire more or less easily
What are the two forms of synapses?
1) chemical
2) electrical
What are chemical synapses?
They contain a transmitter substance which has been synthesized in the presynaptic nerve cell body, packaged in membrane vesicles and transported to the nerve endings
How many directions can a chemical synapse go in?
One
What are the three different things chemical synapses move too?
1) nerve to nerve (brain)
2) motor nerve to muscle
3) neruosecretory nerve to capillary
