4 signs of severe allergic reaction
Skin rashes, itching or hives, swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, shortness of breath, trouble breathing or wheezing, dizziness and/or fainting, swelling of hands and feet, face, confusion, agitation
Mild symptoms
Runny nose, skin rash, “strange feeling “,watery eyes, ab pain, vomiting, diarrhea
Stridor
Squeaky kind of breathing, wheezing. Turbulent air flow in larynx or lower bronchial tree. Caused by narrowing or obstruction airway. Usually heard during inspirations.
Pitfalls of dx anaphylaxis
Absence of hypotension, or shock. Absence of urticaria. 1st manifestation of allergy so no clinical hx. Mistaken as asthma exacerbation
Breathing
Fast, shallow. Wheezing, fast hb, clammy skin
