Switzerland Flashcards
Choice
Freedom of doctor and hospital
System
Universal coverage mandates, with stiff penalties, and wages withheld which liberals like. But, it’s decentralized regulation(regulates by cantons AKA states) and relies on private insurance. People can choose any insurer in their canton. Most Swiss do a managed care plan, where by they have reduced premiums in exchange for less choice of doctors. Government bodies decide what services must be covered by insurers. Dental and eye care Isnt covered. Private insurance is how u get these and 50% of Swiss have that
Prescription drugs
Mandatory health insurance reimburses for drugs included in the basket. Other drugs are paid for by the patient or private insurance
How many insurers
90 in 26 cantons
Financing
Insurers are non profit, so they can’t make money off of their basic plans. But many are linked with for profit insurers (who sell dental, vision, private rooms) and that’s how they make loot
