SWAH test Flashcards
define working at height
any place from which a person can fall a distance liable to cause personal injury
-includes access/eggres except permanent staircases
what is heirachy of control for SWAH
- avoid (working @ height)
- reduce (risk of falling =work restraint)
- minimise (fall distance by using fall arrest device)
what is in a SWAH kit bag
- SWAH harness (singing rock profi worker harness) x2
- fall arrest lanyard x2
- steel strops x2
- kermantle rope (50m 10.5mm,30m 13mm)
- SAR rocker x2
- grillons 2x
- log book
name some features of SWAH harness
anatomically designed leg, waist and shoulder straps, fully adjustable harnesses
name some features of a fall arrest device
specially compact energy absorbing element has high strength stainless steel connecting ring
-high strength = 28KN
name some features of steel strops
provides temporary/durable/reliable anchor
-breaking load= 30KN
name some features of kermantle rope
low stretch, top quality polyamide nylon yarn with UV stabilisation treatment in full cross section of yarn
-breaking point= 30KN
name features of SAR rocker
mechanical device where rope will pass in 1 direction only under load
what must you never do with anchor points for SWAH
never rig an anchor system where angle between 2 legs in greater than 90* )because load gets massive with increases in angles)
can you have many anchor points?
YES, but if 1 is rated high (out of 10) the other anchor points need to be equal to if not higher than the 1 just in case it fails so they take the weight
define work restraint
restricts team/individual movement so that access to any location where there is risk of a fall from height is not possible !
define fall arrest device
used in situations where risk of fall likely to cause injury exists
-if you fall the fall crest device is designed to slow you down , reduce distance you fall= lower impact on body
when must fall arrest device be used
- working on pitched roofs from roof ladders
- ascending/decending on unprotected vertical ladder
define work positioning
when attending any incident where individuals must be supported in tension/suspension to carry out work or to affect a rescue
what feature is used for log books in SWAH bags to maintain its safe to use
use green, yellow, red cable ties to secure zips of bag (green=back from professional inspection, yellow=opened at station and checked, red=checked in house and repair needed. whole bag sent off)
