RTC Flashcards
what is the 6 phases for RTC
1) Scene safety and assessment
2) Stabilisation and Initial access
3) Glass management
4) Space creation
5) Full access
6) Imobilisation and Extrication
define stabilisation
safely, rapidly, logically stabilise vehicle to ensure initial access and create safe working platform
define initial access
allows for medic/casualty carer to perform initial survey and perform any lifesaving interventions (air way management)
define glass management
safely, rapidly, logically manage glass to allow progression of space creation
define space creation
create space to facilitate removal of casualty and space for rescuers to work for extrication plans
define full access
create max space to extricate casualty in most sympathetic manner
define immobilisation and extrication
removal of casualty in safe manner
what are the rules for rescue in RTC
1) consider performing electrical shutdown
2) component awareness
3) maintain safe distances
4) employ steering wheel airbag cover(1st person in car to casualty )
what are some considerations for EV/hybrid cars ?
- consider start stop tech
- make sure engine is not in ready mode
- look for high voltage systems
- isolate main power supply (only when using electrical gloves)
what are the safe distance rules for airbags (SRS )
- 5 (thorax/side impact, 5in)
- 10 (drivers/front impact, 10in)
- 15 (curtain/side impact, 15in)
- 20 (passenger/front impact,20in)
what are the types of glass in RTC
- laminated (front windscreen)
- toughened (all over windows)
What is the order of cuts made in doors
Shut
Top, if door shut cut at top
Open
Bottom, if door open cut at bottom
What the 5 ways for glass management
- leave in situ
- cut (under control, only on laminated/polycarbonate glass, use glass master)
- break (under control, use Patex, salvage sheet, safety pens
- move(whole door)
- windown (windows)
